Responsibilities Provide technical, strategic, and human capital leadership for the Biosciences Team within the Data and Software Sciences of the Energy and Environment Science and Technology (EES&T) directorate at INL. This group oversees and leads the research, development and deployment (RD&D) associated with bioenergy analysis for the development and integration of models and analysis tools for biomass production, logistics, and quality assessment in bioenergy related systems.This position involves supporting and leading research and development activities associated with bioenergy analysis for the development and integration of models and analysis tools for biomass production, logistics, and quality assessment in bioenergy related systems. The employee will develop new state of the art computational approaches and solutions for optimizing computational and analysis resources in bioenergy life cycle analysis, logistics modeling, sustainable production modeling, and biomass conversion process modeling in support of the current analysis portfolio and products. These computational and analysis resources include development and deployment of high-performance computing solutions, analysis tools, web-based software, and database interface solutions to enhance model platforms and frameworks for both internal and external collaborators. The employee will support INL Bioenergy leadership in meeting DOE/industry expectations, milestones, and deliverables, and INL internal reporting metrics. The group lead will work on and lead the coordination, analysis, and delivery of model results to technical and platform leads. The group lead will be expected to prepare and contribute to technical reports and presentations at national technical meetings and project reviews with program sponsors. The group lead will be responsible for business development, writing proposals, and federal funding capture. Additionally, it is expected that the work will result in publications in relevant bioenergy journals. The Group Supervisor:• Acts for the Department Manager, including attending and conducting meetings, providing department information, approving timesheets, etc., in the absence of the Department Manager.• Provides the Department Manager input on quarterly staff performance reviews including appropriate critical feedback, personal goal-setting, and career development.• Assists the Department Manager in creating, updating, and executing a strategic plan for the group.• Assists the Department Manager by overseeing talent development, including recruiting key new staff and retaining existing staff, and identifying professional growth opportunities for group members.• Ensures work within the group is executed safely and efficiently, within budget parameters and appropriate scope.• Develops and maintains the group’s existing technical capability base; identifies and builds new group capabilities associated with the mission area; acquires and executes technical programs.• Demonstrates technical leadership within the group’s area of study/discipline.• Provide input to weekly department updates for assigned group projects including development of presentation material to be used to highlight group capabilities to potential internal and external customers.• Demonstrates technical leadership and hands-on computational modeling and simulation tools specific to bioenergy research for 70% of work scope.• Minimum of 5 years of experience leading winning proposals and funded projects for research customers at DOD and/or DOE.• Strong demonstrated communications skills and experience presenting to stakeholders and customers.• Ability to obtain a U.S. Security Clearance.• Must be a self-starter, with a focus on continuous learning; and enjoys collaborating to discovery innovative ways to solve challenges.• Must be able to work in a culturally diverse environment.
