Role Overview

The Engineering Support Services organization within the Mission Systems Strategic Business Unit (SBU) is looking for a Technical Support Department manager. This role is a leader of leaders and is responsible for the oversight, upkeep, and execution of all activities related to the Mission System engineering labs and the teams supporting them. The position has specific cognizance over Cedar Rapids, IA and Richardson, TX -based labs, but could be expanded in the future to include additional locations within the SBU.

Primary Responsibilities:

Responsible for budgets and staffing. This includes having not only the right number of employees but also ensuring the appropriate skill sets are in place for executional excellence.
Leading and mentoring team leads. Providing them insight into the needs of the business and ensuring they keep a “big picture” mindset.
Understand and support the concepts necessary for building high performing teams including collaboration, team decision making, problem solving, team roles & responsibilities, and customer advocacy
Creating a professional and business-focused environment built around project performance and team-based success.
Development of all strategic and tactical plans for near and long term lab execution.
Initiate frequent and beneficial communication with engineering leadership to ensure full alignment on staffing and roles/responsibilities
Ensuring the labs are stocked with the appropriate tools, supplies, and equipment to propagate an effective working environment.
Create necessary procedures and/or documentation of lab set-ups, and how the labs function, to ensure focus is never dropped inadvertently.
Develop strong working relationships with other shared service leaders to streamline technical support with the rest of the Design & Development and necessary Operations workflows.
Ensure labs are compliant with all internal and external regulatory and policy-based requirements, including EH&S and Quality.
Responsible for related engineering lab space footprint and appropriate allocation, as well as execution and implementation of facility plans, lab design, and capital acquisition plans

Required Skills:

Proven leader who has the ability to interface with employees at all levels of the organization and influence and direct others.
Experience working across sites and teams to accomplish organizational goals.
Ability to multi-task with strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize.
Positive attitude; commitment and dedication to exceptional engineering support
Must be able to build strong networks across the enterprise and effectively find and share resources and information

Preferred Skills:

Understanding of the skills and abilities of engineering technicians and lab assistants
Prior technical experience and knowledge
Project Management experience

Basic Qualifications:

U.S. Citizenship required
Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance required
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to lead, facilitate and motivate teams; a bias for action and sense of urgency to obtain results; active listener
This position requires a Bachelor’s degree in the appropriate discipline and 5 years of relevant experience or an Advanced degree in the appropriate discipline and 3 years of relevant experience.In the absence of a degree, 9 years of relevant experience is required.
